• How will the surfaces be prepared before painting?
• How many coats are planned, and why?

Preparation and Materials

The steps taken before painting can matter as much as the paint itself. Ask about the preparation process, the products being used, and how the crew will protect the surrounding area.

• What preparation steps are planned?
• What type of paint, primer, or finish is being used?
• How will floors, furniture, and landscaping be protected?
• How is dust or debris managed during preparation?

Schedule and Cleanup

Understanding the schedule helps the household plan around the work, and clear cleanup expectations reduce misunderstandings at the end.

• When can the project start, and how many days will it take?
• Who is on the crew, and how will the day-to-day be managed?
• What does cleanup include at the end of each day and at the end of the project?
• How are touch-ups handled after the work is finished?

Documentation and Local Requirements

Written information helps everyone stay aligned. Ask for the proposed scope in writing and confirm what documentation is provided. Also ask about any licenses or insurance that may be required for the work in your area, and verify anything the local jurisdiction requires directly with the appropriate authority.
